We are asking for funds to put up a one-year billboard in Cornwall to highlight the fact that we are a safe place for victims of Human Trafficking. We would create a billboard for victims to see coming off of the 401 into town. Let them know we can help and put our crisis phone number on it. Trafficking victims are among the most difficult demographic to reach, so having a billboard advertising our services would be hugely beneficial in helping us raise awareness. If we are chosen as a recipient for funds, we would also like to add to the billboard that it is sponsored by 100 Women Who Care Cornwall. This would also ideally help promote the group and encourage people to join and support.
We know local girls are being recruited and trafficked. We know that many other girls from neighboring communities are brought to Cornwall and area to work. This project will help keep to raise awareness of our services for Trafficking victims and help to get them away from their trafficker and into a place of safety. The billboard will also raise general awareness about the epidemic of trafficking in our area, heightening parent's knowledge of red flags and warning signs so that they too can work towards keeping their children safe from predators.
Estimated Cost: $5,000
Date of Completion: January 1, 2025
What do you wish everyone knew:
Maison Baldwin House supports women and female identifying individuals who are escaping Domestic Violence and Human Trafficking. We have been providing free and confidential services in Cornwall SDG&A since 1980. We have seen an alarming increase in Human Sex Trafficking in our community over the last 5 years. We know it's happening, but the victims are a very difficult demographic to reach. It is a challenge to even let these victims know we exist and that we can help. Any opportunity we have to spread word of our services and supports is vital. Word of mouth from victim to victim is our best shot at helping these girls escape and reconnect with their families and support systems.
