3)      Socks for Homeless: $500

Total Request: $2500

Big hello to the 100 Women Who Care Group! We have missed you!

This year, Centre 105 is applying for $2500 in funding, for 3 separate “mini projects.”

Have you ever rushed into making a decision, without fully thinking it through? That was us, a few years back when starting to set up Centre 105. When starting out, we purchased plastic shelving, when creating our food storage area. We had a very small budget and needed to stretch every dollar, so the choice was made to purchase a cheap alternative. We quickly found out that plastic shelves were not suitable to our needs, which include heavy food items, canned items, etc. Over time, these plastic shelves have fallen over, snapped, and simply can’t hold any weight.
We are applying for funding, to replace all of our current plastic shelves, with proper food grade metal shelving. The shelving we are hoping to purchase are 7 feet high by 60 inches wide. We have chatted with other food agencies about the long-term strength of these shelves and they come highly recommended. Each shelf carries a cost of $138. At Centre 105, we are in need of 10 of these shelves to replace all of the plastic units.

Along with the shelving replacement project, we are also in need of both laundry detergent and socks. At Centre 105, we run a laundry program for our clients and although the community was amazing and stocked our shelves for our program launch, we are now in need of additional laundry detergent. We have a wholesaler where we can buy a large quantity of quality detergent. Oh yeah... We should mention, we do a ton of laundry at 105!

Also, our sock supply has run out! We are hoping to receive some funding, to buy high quality, warm socks for the winter months. Many of the clients at Centre 105 are homeless or inadequately housed. From year to year, socks continue to be the #1 most requested item, along with female hygiene products.

How will completion of this project directly benefit the residents of Cornwall and Area?:

We love this question. Our Team feels that this project will directly benefit the residents in Cornwall and Area is a huge, positive way. Our goal is to adapt, remain flexible, and grow, to meet the community's needs.

Proper, food grade metal shelving will allow our Team to safely store more food items. The better our agency runs, the better we can serve and help the vulnerable individuals in our community. This also applies for laundry detergent and socks.

Details:

Estimated Cost: $2,500

Date of Completion: April 30, 2025

What do you wish everyone knew:

Centre 105 provides breakfast and creates community. We are a registered charity #10808-4658RR0030.

Centre 105 is a special place. Sure, as someone who has worked here for several years, I might hold a little bias. But I think it is safe to say that Centre 105 is unique. We have created a warm, safe, non-judgemental, welcoming place, for all. We do not require clients to register, give their name, or sign up for any of our services. We open the doors and simply ask that those who enter treat us with the same respect we treat them.

You guys all know it; the world is a tough place these days. Sometimes, you just need somewhere to simply "be." Centre 105 is a place where you can enjoy a meal, relax with friends, have a shower, do laundry, enjoy television, games, wireless internet, as well as a large outdoor seating area.
