Project:

The Intersections program has been partially funded by the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services (MCCSS). However, the majority of the program's costs are borne by Laurencrest Youth Services. Due to a steady rise in youth referrals, combined with government funding freezes and the increasing cost of living, sustaining the program has become increasingly difficult.

Initiated November 1, 2014 in SD&G. Initiated in Prescott-Russell in October, 2016.
Intersections is a voluntary early intervention program for young people between 8 and 17 (SD&G) and 5 and 17 (Prescott-Russell).
The program provides for system navigation and coordination of services for young people with suspected mental health, developmental disabilities and/or substance use issues in order to facilitate interventions and reduce involvement with police services.
Collaborative initiative with the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH), the Children’s Aid Society (CAS), Cornwall City Police, OPP detachments in SD&G & Prescott-Russell and Laurencrest.
Referrals are from police services in their role as first responders to non-criminal circumstances, and from the CAS.
The Intersections Worker provides support to referred young people and their families utilizing a strength based, goal orientated approach.

How will completion of this project directly benefit the residents of Cornwall and Area?: Everything that Laurencrest does is for our community! Over 90% of our programs service SDG, Prescott and Russell. This specific ask is to help us fund our Intersections Programs, which serves all of SDG, Prescott and Russell.

What do you wish everyone knew:  I wish that more people new that Laurencrest was not just a "boy home" or a residential space. Actually, our residential spaced has formally closed in 2021, and we are working really hard to reopen it. I wish people knew that Laurencrest has over 10 different community programs all servicing members of our community!
