Project:

We are looking to create a new recreation program for adults and seniors enrolled in the rehabilitation program at SJCCC. This new program will allow SJCCC to offer:

Education Seminars for patients
- Joint pain
- Stress Management
- Healthy Habits
- Nutrition
- Health Management: Diabetes, COPD, Chronic Heart Failure

Sensory Arts and Crafts classes
- painting
- canvas art
- pottery/clay
- practicing fine motor function

In-House Gardening Program
- allow for raised flower beds to flourish all year long
- planting succulents for patients to grow, nurture, and take home with them once they graduate from the program

Cognition-Based Activity Groups
- Crosswords/word searches
- Group-based trivia games
- Memory boards

Sports Groups available at all time
Shuffle Board
Bean Bag Toss
Magnetic Dart Board
Wii – Chair-based programs (Tennis, chair stepping, bubble pop)

Utilizing virtual reality programs like Rendever to travel while remaining indoors.

This new rehabilitation program will help encourage everyone enrolled at SJCCC, including their loved ones and visitors. It's no surprise that a Hospital stay can feel long for everyone. It is often difficult to find activities to do together that are cognitively, emotionally, and physically engaging. This program will continue to encourage our patients to be the best version of themselves, help fill their quiet time, encourage socialization with others, and allow visitors to engage meaningfully and be part of the process.
This new recreation program will also allow for increased volunteer opportunities in our community and be open for high school students to complete their 40 hours of community service and co-op programs.

Details:

Estimated Cost: $6,000.00

Date of Completion: March 31, 2025

What do you wish everyone knew: St. Joseph's Continuing Care Centre is home to Hotel Dieu Hospital, specializing in adult rehabilitation for our community. We are your home away from home.

An average of 500 patients, from Cornwall and area, spent anywhere from two weeks to 90 days strengthening after a fall, injury, surgery, or adverse effects. The length of your program is determined by the goals set out for you. The program is at no cost to the patient, including meals, rehab sessions, and bedside care.
